Woman found dead near Tacoma church identified by Pierce County medical examiner

A woman who was fatally shot in Tacoma on Saturday has been publicly identified.

Jadell Williams, 23 of Tacoma, died from a gunshot wound to the neck. The manner of her death is a homicide, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Williams was found dead in the 3900 block of North Pearl Street, just off the sidewalk in front of a church. Fire department personnel declared Williams dead at the scene, according to an Oct. 28 story in The News Tribune.

Darius Trevon Hammond, 30, has been charged in the homicide. He was arrested later that afternoon at his mother’s home. Hammond is facing charges of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, according to a News Tribune report.

Hammond allegedly had a prior relationship with Williams, who filed domestic-violence reports against him. Williams was last seen through surveillance footage early Saturday morning carrying a black duffel bag with a man, alleged to be Hammond, following closely behind, court records show.

A plea of not guilty was entered on Hammond’s behalf at Pierce County Superior Court on Monday. Hammond is being held on a $1.5 million bail.
