Arrest made in shooting that killed 16-year-old boy almost nine months ago in Tacoma

A teenager has been arrested for fatally shooting a 16-year-old in Tacoma about nine months ago.

Tacoma officers were dispatched on Jan. 25 at about 1:30 a.m. to the 4400 block of East Portland Avenue for reports of a shooting. The 16-year-old had suffered several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries six days later, according to a Tacoma Police Department news release.

The victim has not been publicly identified.

A witness told police that two people approached the teenager and shot him multiple times before they fled in a vehicle, The News Tribune reported in January.

A homicide investigation began and a 15-year-old boy was identified as the suspect on Sept. 6. A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for the boy’s arrest by the Pierce County Juvenile Court at Remann Hall, release said.

With the help of the King County Sheriff’s Office, the 15-year-old boy was taken into police custody on Monday, the release said. He will be transported to the Pierce County Juvenile Court.
