42-year-old woman arrested for fatal shooting of Tacoma man on Monday, police say

An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a Tacoma man that took place earlier this week.

Tacoma officers were dispatched just before 5 a.m. Monday to the 1200 block of East 25th Street in Tacoma for reports of a deceased man. Officers found an unresponsive man and began live-saving measures. Tacoma Fire Department personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene, according to a Tacoma Police Department news release.

The man was identified as 50-year-old James Wilkinson of Tacoma. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest and his manner of death was listed as a homicide, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Probable cause was established to arrest a 42-year-old woman, the release said. She was located on Wednesday at about 12:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 26th Street. The woman was arrested without incident and booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The woman has yet to be formally charged. The News Tribune typically does not name suspects of crimes until a charging decision has been made.

Police say the case remains an active investigation.
