27-year-old man charged in motorcycle wreck that killed Puyallup mother
A 27-year-old man is accused of causing a fatal crash in Pierce County after leaving a party intoxicated in April.
David Baltazar-Hicks, 27, has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and reckless driving for the April 26 crash, according to court documents. Breezy Brisbin, 21 of Puyallup, was killed in the crash.
Records show Baltazar-Hicks was arrested Tuesday morning on an arrest warrant. His arraignment has not yet been listed on his Pierce County Superior Court criminal case file.
Charging details
On the day of the wreck, deputies were dispatched about 9 p.m. to eastbound 332nd Street South near Roy. Baltazar-Hicks was driving his 2008 Yamaha motorcycle “too fast to stop” at the T-intersection of state Route 507, charging documents say. His motorcycle went off the road, and he and his passenger were ejected, according to charging documents.
Brisbin was pronounced dead at the scene. It appeared that the motorcycle followed her into the brush where she landed and struck her. Baltazar-Hicks and Brisbin were reportedly not wearing helmets, investigators wrote in a report.
Deputies noted a single skid mark consistent with a locked rear brake that continued for about 122 feet. There were other skid marks in the roadway, documents show.
Documents show that Brisbin met Baltazar-Hicks at a party near 332nd Street. He had asked her if she wanted a ride on his motorcycle. Deputies learned that Hicks had offered rides even though he was likely intoxicated from drinking alcohol.
An investigation into the crash began. Baltazar-Hicks’ toxicology test result showed his blood-ethanol level was 0.11 percent. The legal level in Washington is 0.08 percent for adults.
Brisbin’s cause of death was blunt torso trauma. Her manner of death was listed an accident, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A GoFundMe created to support Brisbin’s family described her as a loving partner to her fiancé and devoted mother to her son, who was 10-months old when she died.
