Man and woman dead from murder-suicide in Pierce County identified
A man and woman who died from a murder-suicide in a Spanaway home last week have been identified.
Thomas Hayes, 57, died from a gunshot wound to the torso in the 20600 block of 7th Avenue Court East on Oct. 9. His manner of death was listed as a homicide, according to a news release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Dawn Jones, 54, died from a gunshot wound to the head. Her manner of death was ruled a suicide, the release said. Both Jones and Hayes were from Spanaway.
Deputies were dispatched at 10:41 p.m. to the home for reports that a man had been shot. Several neighbors also reported to deputies after they arrived that they heard gunshots coming from the house, and no one was answering the door, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in a blotter post.
Hayes and Jones were found dead after deputies breached the door to the house.
A 14-year-old was found alive and hiding in a closet in a bedroom. She was not involved in the deaths and released to the custody of family members. The post said that there are no other suspects, and the incident was contained to the house.
