Fatal shooting in Tacoma might have been self-defense, prosecutors say
A person arrested in a fatal shooting from Sunday in Tacoma will be released from jail pending further investigation, according to the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The 39-year-old was arrested by police Monday for the shooting that left a man dead in the 5100 block of South 58th Street. The person was booked into the Pierce County Jail at about 7:03 a.m., according to jail records.
The shooting might have been self-defense, and an investigation is ongoing, Prosecuting Attorney’s Office spokesperson Adam Faber told The News Tribune.
Officers were dispatched to the shooting at 6:55 p.m. where they found a man who suffered a gunshot wound, according to the Tacoma Police Department in a news release. Police began life-saving measures before Tacoma Fire Department personnel took over. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the incident was being investigated as a homicide.
The victim had not been identified as of Wednesday morning.
