Woman charged in Milton fatal stabbing ordered to undergo competency test
A competency test has been ordered for a woman accused of fatally stabbing another woman in a Milton home near Fife Monday afternoon.
Prosecutors charged Mi Lanique Jenkins, 30, with first-degree murder for the suspected stabbing that took place in the 24th Avenue Court Townhomes after a homeowner reported the incident.
Jenkins is being held at the Pierce County Jail on a no-bail hold after Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore Garold Johnson ordered her to undergo a competency evaluation, records show.
The identification of the victim has not been released, pending confirmation from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Details of the incident from charging documents
Officers went to the home around 1:46 p.m. after someone reported her friend was getting stabbed with a knife. The victim was unresponsive on the ground when police arrived, according to charging documents. She was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving measures were attempted.
When Jenkins was detained, she was wearing a zip-up jacket that was soaked in blood. Officers noted she allegedly had smeared blood on her hands as well, documents show.
The person who reported the stabbing was a resident at the home and Jenkins’ former roommate, documents show. She said Jenkins showed up outside her home and demanded to come in. She texted the victim, who was her best friend, to pick Jenkins up from the home. The victim was reportedly in a relationship with Jenkins’ uncle.
Documents show the witness told police when the victim arrived, the witness allowed her to come into the house with Jenkins. The victim used the restroom, while the witness stayed upstairs as she was afraid of Jenkins.
The witness heard the knife drawer open and allegedly saw Jenkins charge at the victim, documents show. There was no argument before the alleged attack, and the witness said she heard the victim scream for help. The witness thought Jenkins would hurt her so she told police she ran out the back door to get help from her neighbors.
Another neighbor reportedly heard banging and yelling from the house. She said the yelling went on for about 30 seconds, documents show.
Jenkins refused to speak with police, and documents show the motive is unclear.
A knife was found on the ground near the entry-way of the home, documents show. There was blood splatter on the walls and on items in the home.
Jenkins has previous criminal convictions in California, New York, District of Columbia and Nevada. She was convicted in 2017 for DUI and engaging in prostitution in Nevada, according to court records.
