Pierce County man fatally shot in apparent road rage incident identified

A Spanaway man who died in an apparent road-rage incident in Pierce County last week has been identified, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Alexander Jay Richardson III, 21, died on Jan. 30 from a gunshot wound to the chest. His manner of death was listed as a homicide, the office reported through its information portal.

Deputies were dispatched at 10:16 p.m. to the 16100 block of Military Road East for a vehicle that crashed into a tree. People nearby and deputies removed the man from the car. He had suffered a gunshot wound, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The post said a road-rage incident might have occurred on 22nd Avenue East.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.
