Man found fatally shot in Tacoma identified. No arrests made, police say

A man who was found fatally shot in Tacoma on Sunday has been identified as 53-year-old Johnny Van Nguyen, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Nguyen died from multiple gunshot wounds as a result of a homicide, the office wrote on its public information portal. Nguyen was presumed to be homeless.

Officers were dispatched at about 9:40 a.m. to the 1200 block of South I Street for an unresponsive male. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after police and Tacoma Fire Department personnel arrived, according to a Tacoma Police Department news release.

As of Thursday, no arrests had been made, according to TPD spokesperson officer Shelbie Boyd.

It is the second homicide in Tacoma in 2026.
