‘Things are looking up.’ Tacoma store owner injured in shooting faces recovery
A Tacoma grocery store owner who is the father of four children was injured in a shooting outside his shop last week.
The shooting between two men occurred Thursday at Park Avenue Foods at about 12:33 p.m. Both men were taken to a local hospital, where they were listed in critical condition, The News Tribune reported.
Police have not said what they believe led up to the gunfire, but they have reported that they are not actively looking for suspects, the story said.
As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made, and there were no updates on the investigation, according to a spokesperson for the Tacoma Police Department.
Hun Chin was working at his store when the shooting occurred. According to GoFundMe, an argument occurred outside the store.
Chin was left with serious injuries after being shot, according to the description of a GoFundMe that is raising money to help cover his medical expenses.
An initial post to the fundraiser says Chin was in ICU receiving care. He was heavily medicated and at one point could not speak because he had a tube down his throat. Chin also had surgery to remove a bullet.
“I believe the worst has past and hoping for a speedy recovery,” according to the fundraiser.
In a recent update, the fundraiser says Chin is out of ICU and has started rehab.
“Although he’s still in a lot of pain, he’s pushing through and staying as active as he can, determined to get back to his family,” according to the fundraiser. “Things are looking up.”
Chin is described as a dedicated small business owner who has worked hard for years to serve his community. Chin is a husband and father to three boys and a young daughter, the fundraiser says. His family depends on him, and the shooting has affected his ability to provide for his family while medical expenses grow.
“Hun is known by many in the community as a kind, hardworking, and reliable person. He has built strong relationships with his customers over the years, and now he needs our support more than ever,” the fundraiser says.
Funds are being raised to cover hospital expenses, surgeries, ongoing treatment, recovery, rehabilitation and to support his family. More than $19,000 had been raised by Tuesday afternoon.
