Bail set at $1 million for teen charged in kidnapping of ex-girlfriend and infant
A Tacoma teenager accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and their infant daughter for several hours Saturday was ordered held Tuesday in lieu of $1 million bail.
One day after he turned himself in to police, 17-year-old Mickeal Gordon pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree kidnapping, drive-by shooting and second-degree unlawful gun possession.
Charging papers give this account:
The abduction took place about 12:30 p.m. at a home near South 70th and L streets when Gordon came looking for his former girlfriend, 18-year-old Nakeisha Belk, and their 5-month-old daughter.
After realizing how upset Gordon was, a witness called Belk to tell her to stay away. But before she received the warning she arrived at the home with her new boyfriend, the baby and four young people ages 6, 10, 15 and 16.
Gordon, who was carrying a gun, opened the door of the van Belk was in, hit her and pulled her from the van.
Holding her by the hair, he put her into a car and demanded his baby from Belk’s boyfriend. The boyfriend handed Gordon the infant, and he put her in the car.
As he left, Gordon shot through the back window of the van.
Police said he fired two more shots at Belk’s boyfriend and the 10-year-old, who were running toward the home.
The shots went through the kitchen and a bedroom.
Police quickly issued an Amber Alert to help find Belk and the baby girl.
About five hours later, Gordon released Belk and the infant near a friend’s house. Neither was hurt. Gordon’s mother gave the two a ride home.
A warrant was issued for Gordon, who turned himself in Monday.
Belk declined to speak with detectives, saying she wasn’t kidnapped or assaulted. She denied ever seeing Gordon with a gun and said she went with him willingly.
