Officials identify man fatally shot on Tacoma’s East Side

Officials have identified a 30-year-old man shot to death early Saturday on Tacoma’s East Side as Preston Stafford.

Stafford, who was homeless, was found about 1:15 a.m. near East T and East Morton streets after several people reported hearing gunshots.

He was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where he died about 6:30 a.m. from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police have not made an arrest or released details about the circumstances that led to the shooting.
