1 teen arrested in fatal Federal Way shooting; another teen sought

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Federal Way teen and police are looking for a 14-year-old suspect.

Wesley Gennings, 16, was found shot in his car Saturday in a restaurant parking lot in the 2000 block of SW Campus Drive.

Witnesses reported seeing two men get out of Gennings’ vehicle about 8:30 p.m. and run.

Detectives interviewed dozens of people and sent several forensic samples to be tested, police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said.

On Thursday, they arrested a 16-year-old boy at Thomas Jefferson High School, where he is a student. Police said he had a gun on him when he was taken into custody.

The teen was booked into the King County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of murder. He has not been charged with a crime.

Police are still searching for a 14-year-old Tacoma boy — Diante J. Pellum — whom they said is armed and dangerous.

“Through investigation the police department can confidently report that this senseless crime was purely motivated by the sale and distribution of drugs,” according to a news release.

The alleged shooters met Gennings in the parking lot and got in his car, where an argument broke out.

Gennings attended Decatur High School in Federal Way.
