Tacoma police arrest 2 men in fatal shooting

Tacoma police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting that killed one man and seriously wounded his girlfriend in their apartment.

The suspects, ages 21 and 27, were arrested Thursday and booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. The 21-year-old also was booked on suspicion of assault.

Pierce County prosecutors are expected to make a charging decision next week.

Maluelue Fitiao, 39, and his 29-year-old girlfriend were in their bedroom early Sunday while their roommate had a few friends over to the apartment the three shared in the 7400 block of McKinley Avenue.

Fitiao came out of the bedroom about 12:40 a.m. to ask the group to quiet down. Police said that’s when he was shot.

His girlfriend came out of the bedroom and was shot by a different partygoer, police said. She is expected to survive.

When officers arrived, several people who had been at the party had fled. Fitiao was pronounced dead at the scene.
