Fatal I-5 wreck sends two drivers to jail

A passenger was killed in a wreck on Interstate 5 early Saturday and two men in separate vehicles were arrested.

The 3 a.m. collision on northbound I-5 at milepost 122 near Lakewood began when a northbound driver hit an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder of the road, said Washington State Patrol trooper Todd Bartolac.

That vehicle then traveled across the northbound lanes and was hit by three other vehicles.

An adult male passenger in the first vehicle died of injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver in the first vehicle and a driver in one of the other vehicles were arrested and booked Pierce County Jail on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol.
