A 46-year-old Olympia man has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection to a Monday night Olympia shooting.

The victim in the shooting, a 20-year-old man, was shot once and is in stable condition at Providence St. Peter Hospital, according to the Olympia Police Department.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County jail, and is expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to the intersection of Plum Street SE and Union Avenue at 8:13 p.m. Monday after a man reported a shooting. The caller, believed the shooter, called 911 from a nearby gas station, according to police.

Officers at the scene found a 20-year-old man lying in the roadway. He had been shot once, and the bullet had traveled through his arm into his chest. He was transported to the hospital.

Witnesses reported that a dispute had arisen between the alleged shooter and the victim about right of way at the intersection, according to police. The victim had been skateboarding, and the suspect had been driving.

During the argument, the skateboarder allegedly struck the hood of the car with his hand, and then moved to the passenger side of the car. Witnesses reported that he struck the car door with his skateboard, shattering the window, according to police.

Witnesses said the suspect then took out a gun and fired one shot at the skateboarder, who collapsed, according to police. The suspect then drove to the gas station and called 911.

Olympia Police Department detectives are still investigating this case. There are no outstanding suspects in this matter. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to please call detectives at 360-753-8300.
