Two plead guilty, one acquitted in Tacoma drive-by shooting

Two men have pleaded guilty to lesser assault charges after a jury hung on counts of first-degree assault in connection with a 2015 drive-by shooting in Tacoma.

A companion was acquitted of aiding the men in the May 16, 2015, incident.

Omari Brown, 25, of Kent and Devonte’ Parson, 23, of Federal Way were sentenced Friday in Pierce County Superior Court to serve nearly 7 1/2 years in prison , followed by 18 months of community custody.

Each of the men was convicted of four counts of second-degree assault and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. The jury hung May 26 on four counts of first-degree assault.

On Friday, jurors found Cheryl Lowe, 24, of Seattle not guilty of first-degree rendering criminal assistance and second-degree rendering criminal assistance.

Prosecutors alleged Brown and Parson, in a car driven by Lowe, opened fire on a group outside a bar in the 8400 block of South Hosmer Street after a fight earlier in the night.

The victims were not part of the earlier altercation.

The three were arrested nearby after fleeing the scene, according to court records.

Brown has a felony conviction for first-degree attempted robbery and six misdemeanor convictions. Parson has five previous felony convictions and seven misdemeanor convictions.
