A 60-year-old man died after a boat capsized in rough waters off the California coast, authorities said.

A caller told 911 they saw a “small inflatable boat capsize in rough seas” near Salt Point State Park on Thursday, Oct. 20, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The caller said the three passengers who were aboard were in the water, “struggling to make it to shore,” the post said.

While two of the passengers made it to shore, another was still “still in the water: face down and not moving,” the caller reported, according to the post.

A helicopter from the sheriff’s office arrived and found the man in the water “who was now trapped underneath a large rock,” the sheriff’s office said. A tactical officer was flown in and helped rescue the man from the water using a “horse collar rescue device.”

The man was taken to a nearby bluff where rescuers attempted to perform “lifesaving measures,” the sheriff’s office said. Despite “extensive lifesaving measures” from “fire and medical resources,” the man was pronounced deceased.

The man has been identified as Kreydich Mikhaylovich of Rancho Cordova, according to officials.

“The Sheriff’s Office sends our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the victim,” the Facebook post said.

Salt Point State Park is about 130 miles west of Sacramento.
