‘Loving’ dad killed while driving back from date night with wife, Maryland reports say

A dad driving home from a date with his wife died in a crash, Maryland officials and loved ones say.
Baltimore police said in a news release that Rahmel Summerlin was killed just before midnight on Friday, Feb. 24, when he tried to turn left and was struck by another car.
Summerlin and his wife were on the way home from a date night when the wreck happened, a loved one wrote in a GoFundMe created for the family. His wife, Ishjah Mayo-Summerlin, remains hospitalized and has undergone several surgeries.
The 32-year-old had a 5-year-old daughter, according to the fundraiser.
“He was kind, loving, compassionate, and wonderful,” one person wrote.
Summerlin worked as a third-grade teacher at Rossville Elementary School in Rosedale, a suburb of Baltimore, according to school officials.
“(Our) family circle is broken so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!” the school wrote. “You are truly going to be missed.”
Others shared tributes for Summerlin on social media.
“My heart has been crushed,” Summerlin’s mom wrote in a Facebook post.
“He was truly a great man, father, son, teacher, mentor, just a great person to many,” another person wrote in a comment. “He gave his whole heart to his students. Seeing him and how he connected with students, encouraged them, guided them, and so much more, showed us how much he loved and poured his whole heart into those around him.
“The world lost an amazing soul,” a co-worker wrote in a Facebook post. “He was an amazing teacher, his student looked up to him and enjoyed his class, he was an amazing co worker, always thinking of others and made the work environment fun. He will truly be missed!”
