Two people in Illinois have been arrested in connection with the death of a 39-year-old man, according to news outlets.

Agnieszka Rydzewski, 33, was in a secret relationship with her 20-year-old McDonald’s co-worker, Anthony Calderon, authorities said, according to WMAQ.

At some point, officials say the two conspired to kill Rydzewski’s boyfriend, Arturo Cantu, according to WGN.

On the morning of May 15, Cantu was walking to his car at his apartment complex in Bridgeview when Calderon confronted him and shot him multiple times, police told WLS. Rydzewski was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, according to police.

After he was shot, Cantu made his way back to the entrance of his apartment building, collapsed and died, WGN reported, citing authorities.

Calderon was seen on surveillance video at the scene in a red car, police told WMAQ. The next day, authorities found the car at his job. When police questioned Calderon, they said he confessed to killing Cantu.

Prosecutors said Calderon shot Cantu because he and Rydzewski were in a “secret relationship,” WLS reported.

“It affected me a lot. He will never see me grow up, he will never see his kids grow up,” Cantu’s 12-year-old son Jonathan Cantu told WLS. “I can never forgive the person who did that to my dad.”

Cantu also had a 10-year-old daughter, according to the news outlet.

Calderon is charged with first-degree murder and Rydzewski is charged with solicitation to commit murder, according to WGN.

Attorneys for Calderon and Rydzewski were not listed in court records.

Bridgeview is about a 20-mile drive southwest of Chicago.
