Houston police have arrested one person after a woman was found shot to death in her Texas apartment.

On Aug. 26, police responded to a call for a “person down,” according to a news release from the Houston Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as 21-year-old Muna Pandey, with fatal gunshot wounds.

Pandey was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Staff at the apartment complex told police they received an anonymous call about a body inside an apartment. Then they called 911, police said.

Surveillance cameras captured an image of a man, whom police later identified as 51-year-old Bobby Singh Shah.

Shah was later arrested during a traffic stop on Aug. 28 and charged with capital murder, according to police.

Attorney information for Singh Shah was not available.

Muna Pandey

According to a GoFundMe page, Pandey moved to the United States from Nepal in 2021 to attend college in Texas.

“A bright and dedicated student at Houston Community College, (she) was full of dreams and aspirations,” the GoFundMe page said.

Drona Gautam, of the Nepalese Association of Houston, told KHOU that Pandey’s mother had been unable to reach her prior to her being found.

“This is very unfortunate to her because she’s the only child, she’s the only one child of the mother – so she’s very devastated,” Gautam told the news outlet.

Many have taken to social media to express their grief.

“(The) Nepalese community is deeply saddened by the tragic news of Muna Pandey”s passing,” the Nepalese Association of Houston said in a Facebook post.

“My heart aches for the loss of such a dear Chori Muna,” one Facebook user wrote. “Words can’t express the sorrow I feel.”
