‘Sweet’ dog found as hungry stray ‘just wants to be loved.’ Meet the cuddly pup
A “sweet” dog was found as a hungry stray — and she “just wants to be loved.”
“With excellent veterinary care and plenty of TLC in her foster home, she’s blossoming into the healthy, happy girl she was meant to be,” the Triangle Beagle Rescue of North Carolina wrote Aug. 14 in a Facebook post. “While she was estimated at 11 years old, her foster family suspects she’s actually younger — she just needed some time to heal.”
Mindy received much-needed care after she was found covered in fleas in July. The dog, who also showed signs of neglect, landed at a Person County shelter before the Raleigh-area rescue took her in.
“She was given a rabies shot and her other vaccines and was found to be heartworm positive with both ear and eye infections,” Christine Sibona, a foster parent to Mindy, told McClatchy News via email. “Her paperwork from that county indicates that she displayed severe dental tartar and was underweight.”
When Mindy first got to her foster home, she “lost part of a tooth.” The pup “needed emergency vet care which even included hospitalization and a blood transfusion. She has bounced back from a critical situation and is a happy girl who is gaining weight,” according to Sibona.
Mindy also is described as a “gentle, affectionate” dog who is still on her journey toward recovery. She’s scheduled to receive more dental care and start heartworm treatment.
“Mindy’s manners are as sweet as her personality — she’s fully house trained and just wants to be loved,” rescuers wrote. “She’s currently heartworm positive and will be available for adoption once her treatment is complete.”
As of Aug. 15, Sibona estimated Mindy would be ready for a new home some time in October. Details about the rescue’s adoption process can be found at tribeagles.org.
“Mindy is the softest cuddler and adores gentle ear and body massages,” the rescue wrote. “She’s equally happy rolling in the grass or entertaining herself with chew toys and balls (she’ll even play fetch solo!). She’s learning that the ‘other dog’ she sees in mirrors isn’t a threat — now she greets her reflection with a friendly tail wag.”
