Inslee, Julie Door, Debra Lekanoff to speak at virtual Get Out The Vote event

The Washington State Democratic Party is hosting virtual Get Out The Vote events ahead of the primary, including one at 5 p.m. Friday that has Pierce and Whatcom county ties.

Gov. Jay Inslee, state Rep. Debra Lekanoff, a member of the Tlingit tribe who represents parts of Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties, and Puyallup Mayor Julie Door, who is running to represent the 25th Legislative District in the state Senate, will speak on a Zoom call Friday night. Democratic State Party Chair Tina Podlodowski will introduce them.

The public can watch the remarks via Facebook Live at facebook.com/washdems/live_videos/.

It will be the eighth day of the “Virtual Get Out The Vote Tour” ahead of the Aug. 4 primary.

Candidates and elected officials make remarks at each event and there’s a virtual phone-banking training for volunteers. Volunteers can sign up at bit.ly/2ZOd0iw.

Lekanoff is running as an unopposed incumbent to represent the 40th Legislative District. Door’s opponents are Republicans Emmett Smith and state Rep. Chris Gildon.

There are 36 gubernatorial candidates on the ballot, including Inslee.

Another virtual Get Out The Vote event will be held Saturday. Congressman Derek Kilmer, Joy Stanford, and Carrie Hesch will give remarks. Stanford and Hesch are running for seats in the state House to represent the 26th Legislative District.
