Democrats to consolidate power in Pierce County government, latest election results show

As reported by The News Tribune on election night, Democrats are consolidating power in Pierce County government.

Now with 710 of 732 precincts reporting, it’s likely Democrats will take the Pierce County Executive position and have a majority on the Pierce County Council. There will be another ballot update with results at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Current council chair and Democrat Ryan Mello is ahead of Republican state Rep. Kelly Chambers with 51.19% of the vote as of 3:20 p.m. Friday. Chambers trailed with 48.67%.

Republican incumbents Paul Herrera (District 2) and Amy Cruver (District 3) will hold onto their seats, and Democrat Rosie Ayala (District 4) and Democrat Jani Hitchen (District 6) continue to lead their races.

Herrera garnered 57.03% of the vote against Democrat Davida Haygood, who received 42.89% as of Friday.

Cruver pulled a solid lead with 63.26% against Democrat John M. Linboe, who received 36.59% of the vote as of Friday.

Ayala was soundly winning in her race as well with 69.19% of the vote compared to Democrat Rodney Robinson, who trailed with 28.44% of the vote as of Friday.

Hitchen appears to be holding onto a lead against Republican Loujanna “LJ” Rohrer, despite losing to Rohrer in the primary election. As of Friday afternoon Hitchen had 52.39% of the vote and Rohrer received 47.46%.

In the Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer race, current Pierce County District 5 council member Marty Campbell is pulling ahead of his competitor Kent Keel, a former University Place School Board and City Council member. Campbell also pulled ahead of Keel in the primary.

As of Friday afternoon Campbell had received 53.14% of the vote and Keel received 46.36%.
