An injured climber summoned help after falling on a remote Washington peak by shouting across a canyon, officials said.

The 31-year-old was climbing alone on Sinister Peak’s northern glacier when he fell, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said in a July 16 post on Facebook.

He slid about 200 feet, “dislocating his shoulder and possibly breaking his legs,” according to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, which sent a search and rescue team after authorities were alerted.

The injured climber got help by yelling to another party in the area, deputies and navy officials said.

That group got in touch with rescuers and made its way to the fallen climber by “traversing glacial and rocky terrain,” according to deputies.

The man “was showing signs of early-stage hypothermia,” deputies said.

The Naval Air Station Whidbey crew hoisted him and flew him to a Seattle hospital, officials said.

Sinister Peak is in the North Cascades.
