Washington lottery player wins nearly $1 million in New Year’s Eve drawing
The last day of 2025 saw the last Washington’s Lottery drawing of the year.
While a Powerball ticket sold in Western Washington netted one lucky player $50,000 on Wednesday, Dec. 31, a Hit 5 player scored nearly $1 million, according to a representative for Washington’s Lottery.
The lottery player matched all five numbers in the Hit 5 drawing on New Year’s Eve to win the full $945,000 cashpot, the lottery spokesperson wrote in an email.
Where was winning lottery ticket sold in Washington state?
The lucky lottery ticket was purchased at Safeway, 1109 East Yelm Ave. in Yelm, according to the representative for Washington’s Lottery.
The grocery store will receive a $9,450 retailer selling bonus, the lottery spokesperson said.
Yelm is about a half-hour drive from Olympia, and about 40 minutes from Tacoma by car.
What were Hit 5 numbers in New Year’s Eve drawing?
The winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing were 13, 23, 25, 27 and 40, according to Washington’s Lottery.

Players select five numbers between 1 and 42, or let the system choose five for them using Quick Pick. There are four possible winning combinations:
- Two balls: Free Hit 5 ticket
- Three balls: $15
- Four balls: $150
- All five balls: Cashpot
The cashpot starts at $100,000 and grows until someone matches all five numbers, according to Washington’s Lottery. The odds of winning are one in 851,000.
Hit 5 tickets cost $1. You can purchase tickets up to 25 days in advance through Advance Play. Sales end at 7:45 p.m. every night, starting again for the next day at 7:46 p.m.

The next Hit 5 drawings will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2.
