Winter weather not quite ready to let go. Snow in the forecast for South Sound region
Forecasters say it will be cold and wet with some light rain and snow falling Thursday afternoon across the South Sound region.
The precipitation will begin as snow across Western Washington, before mixing with rain Thursday afternoon, according to a briefing from the National Weather Service on Wednesday. The rain/snow mix is expected to become snow again overnight Thursday into Friday morning.
Some snow might stick, but not much. Forecasters anticipate less than 1 inch for the lowlands, including the South Puget Sound area. There’s a 28% chance that Tacoma will get at least 1 inch of snow, and a 34% chance in Olympia, according to the briefing.
That’s enough to warrant caution on the roads. Forecasters continue to warn of black ice from water on the roads refreezing overnight.
Temperatures below freezing will also linger, with lows in the 10s and low 20s Thursday morning, the briefing said.
