Embattled legislator: Criticism by Democrats unfounded
Re: “Sawyer, supporters not trustworthy,” (TNT letter, 7/26).
The letter writer is critical of Democrats supporting Rep. David Sawyer. She says he sexually harassed several women. This is simply a lie, coming from someone who asked Sawyer to resign before the investigation was complete.
Fact is, the investigation showed Sawyer never was accused of attacking anyone, physically touching anyone, asking an employee for sex, forcing contact with another or even asking non-employees for sex.
He made too many text requests for dates, made inappropriate phone calls and made inappropriate jokes. None of this rises to the level of sexual harassment. Sawyer has admitted to poor judgment and apologized.
The so-called independent investigator said her conclusion was that this was sexually motivated, but she refuses to release her investigation.
The letter writer, who is state committee woman for Legislative District 29, does not join Sawyer in demanding the entire investigation be released, nor does she admit that a majority of Democrats at the 29th meeting did not vote for Sawyer to resign.
This is mud-slinging by North End Democrats upset that the South End has strong leadership. It’s a coverup by Seattle Democrats who want to use Sawyer as a scapegoat.
He should continue his strong record of work for us. That is why I voted for Sawyer today.
