Free press: Don’t buy into president’s propaganda

Re: “Media bias: Editorial proves president’s point,” (TNT letter, 8/24).

“False equivalence” and “unhinged” are the words the author of this letter used to describe the Aug. 18 McClatchy/TNT editorial that was headlined: “President Trump, end your war on our free press.”

Yet none of these words are remotely applicable when describing an opinion piece.

The letter also states that Trump “has done nothing to infringe on freedom of the press, and has the same right to criticize the press as they have to criticize him.”

While I agree with the author’s second point here, her first point of no wrongdoing is false since our president has called, and continues to call, the free press “fake news” and the enemy of the people.

Although I’m disheartened by people like the letter writer who seem to buy into our president’s propaganda, I still find hope when I see the press is doing its job by standing up for the all the principles that made America great a long time ago.

They include free speech along with a free press.
