SUMNER: Sumner isn't Mayberry anymore

Re: “Graffiti isn’t a big problem” (letter, 7-31).

The writer states there is no graffiti problem in Sumner. I suggest she get out and walk along East Main Street, drive under the tracks at Thompson Street, or look at the large electrical boxes along most of the street in town and some stop signs and even power poles.

Fred Meyer has lots of it on the store. Check out the benches in Rainier View Park or a couple of fences along Meade McCumber Road. It’s all over town.

I love my little town, too, but I have to face reality and burst your bubble: It isn’t Mayberry anymore. Take a cruise through town between midnight and about 4 a.m., and you will be surprised at what you might see.
