Obama: Letter reflects nation's deep divide

Re: “President won’t be missed by all” (letter, 2-15).

The letter writer offers a clear look at the reason our country is so divided and so angry. Obviously no supporter of the president, the writer tries to balance what he considers a one-sided David Brooks column (TNT, 2-10) with an even more one-sided list of “scandals.”

He far overreaches to list events that hardly rise to the level of White House misdeeds (Fast and Furious, conference “excesses”).

He also tries to attack debt accumulation when even he knows that without some difficult spending decisions we might be without an auto industry and/or in a deep depression. And deficit spending under Obama has been reduced to levels far below those of his predecessor.

It would be a great treat for all of us if - instead of tossing divisive bombs - we could offer balanced discussions that ladle out both praise and criticism.

Obama has not been perfect, but I prefer his shortcomings to horrific off-the-books wars or sitting by as Wall Street sends the world economy into a tailspin. And I am willing to give George W. Bush credit for his successes.

Let’s try to get along, people. Please.
