Bonney Lake High School’s Kaylee Coatney was selected as the 3A state soccer player of the year by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association.

Not too bad for a sophomore.

And it comes after earning the 3A Pierce County League’s MVP last season. She had 34 goals and eight assists this season, coming one year after collecting 26 goals and 14 assists as a freshman.

She is a two-time TNT All-Area selection, as well.

One of the other top honors went to Life Christian coach Chris Anderson, who was selected as the 2B/1B girls soccer coach of the year, leading the Eagles to their first state title of any sport.

Coatney was joined on the 3A first-team by Stadium’s Makenzie Burks, who led Stadium to the 3A state title game and earned The News Tribune’s All-Area player of the year and the 3A PCL MVP, scoring 27 goals for the 3A PCL champs.

She was a first-team all-state forward alongside Central Kitsap’s Lauren Hudson, who shared the 3A South Sound Conference’s MVP honor with Gig Harbor’s Carolyn Merrick, who was a first-team midfielder. Bonney Lake’s Olivia Grob was a first-team defender.

In 4A, Puyallup’s Meredith Udovich, a sophomore, led the Vikings to the 4A SPSL title and earned first-team all-state midfielder. Sumner’s Jaylin Borden, the 4A SPSL defender of the year, was a first-team pick, too, and Emerald Ridge’s Karlee Stueckle, the 4A SPSL offensive player of the year, was a second-team forward afterfinishing her career with 52 goals and 19 assists before she heads to Boise State.

Thomas Jefferson’s Hailey Still, the 4A NPSL Olympic MVP who finished with 29 goals and seven assists, earned second-team forward, too.

In 2A, White River’s Annabelle Hall and Eatonvile’s Halle Noel were both selected as first-team midfielders. Hall, a senior, led White River to the 2A state semifinals. Noel is a freshman.

Fife’s Kya Scott earned first-team defender.

In 1A, Cascade Christian’s Nicole Souply, the 1A Nisqually League MVP who finished with 25 goals and 11 assists, eanred first-team forward.

And in 2B/1B girls, Life Christian had five players selected to the first team to show for its state title: Alea Yun and Tyler Taff were both first-team forwards, Grace Pierson was a first-team midfielders and Megan Sylvian and Elysse Loyola were first-team defenders.

There were plenty other South Sound players selected to the all-state teams. Here is that full list:
