High school girls soccer: The News Tribune’s spring 2021 All-Area team
First- and second-team selections for The News Tribune’s spring 2021 All-Area girls soccer team.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Callie Lowney, Puyallup, jr. — Lowney’s competitive drive paced undefeated Puyallup to a 4A SPSL title. 4A SPSL South offensive player of the year scored both goals in the championship win over Gig Harbor and finished the season with a team-high nine while adding four assists.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Paul Lewis, Auburn Riverside — Even in a delayed and shortened season, Lewis’ squad — which advanced to the 4A state championship game against Puyallup in 2019 — didn’t miss a beat. The Ravens likely would have been a contender in the 3A bracket if there were state playoffs this season, but took advantage of the playing time given by closing out an undefeated 3A NPSL championship. The Ravens outscored their opponents 35-2, including shutout out otherwise unbeaten 4A NPSL champion Tahoma twice. Lewis was the 3A NPSL coach of the year.
FIRST TEAM
FORWARDS
Serena Cacciatore, Bonney Lake, jr. — Panthers forward paced an offense that outscored opponents 47-5 in a shortened season. She was the 3A PCL offensive co-MVP.
Grace Edvalds, Bellarmine Prep, sr. — Missed time late in the shortened season with a foot injury, but has been one of the most dominant forwards in the South Sound throughout her career. Three-time TNT All-Area pick.
Kiana Gutierrez, Auburn Riverside, jr. — 3A NPSL first-teamer scored nine goals across eight games and added another seven assists for an undefeated Ravens team that cruised to a league title.
Brooklyn Lee, Stadium, fr. — Converted outside back led Stadium’s offense in her first high school season. 3A PCL co-offensive MVP tallied 10 goals and eight assists for an undefeated Tigers team that outscored opponents 58-1.
Halle Noel, Puyallup, sr. — 4A SPSL South first-team pick is normally an outside back, but switched to forward for the Vikings this season and scored eight goals for the undefeated league champions. Headed to Western Washington.
Samiah Shell, Auburn Riverside, soph. — Two-time TNT All-Area pick tallied a team-high 12 goals in eight matches played, and added three assists. 3A NPSL first-team pick paced the Ravens to an undefeated league title.
MIDFIELDERS
Ally Beavers, Puyallup, jr. — Undefeated Puyallup’s offense started with the 4A SPSL South first-teamer’s passes. Beavers tallied a team-high 11 assists as a holding midfielder.
Cassidy Elicker, Kennedy Catholic, sr. — Elicker was the glue for the Lancers on the field, and her physicality and technical ability led her to 4A NPSL athlete of the year honors. She is headed to play at Idaho next season.
Ella Hatteberg, Gig Harbor, jr.: 4A SPSL North first-teamer was instrumental in Gig Harbor’s attack and on defense, chipping in three goals and three assists for a Tides team that advanced to the league title match against Puyallup.
Kaari Little, Tumwater, soph. — 2A EvCo co-player of the year paced the T-Birds to an undefeated record in league play. Prior to their lone loss in the 2A Southwest District title game, the T-Birds outscored opponents 39-1. Little was at the center of it, tallying four goals and a team-high nine assists.
Stella Marien, Stadium, jr. — 3A PCL first-teamer displayed exceptional vision of the field and a high soccer IQ, and a helped pace the Tigers to an undefeated season. She tallied four goals and a team-high 11 assists.
Payton Martinson, Sumner, jr. — 4A NPSL North offensive MVP paced the Spartans with eight goals and five assists.
Lily Paulson, Gig Harbor, jr.: 4A SPSL North first-teamer tallied three goals and nine assists for a Tides team that advanced to the league title match against Puyallup.
Olivia Quinnett, Enumclaw, sr. — 2A SPSL MVP paced the Hornets to a league title with 10 goals and four assists. Headed to play at Highline College next season.
Olivia Seaholm, Stadium, sr. — Engine of the Tigers’ undefeated squad was a 3A PCL first-team pick and tallied six goals and two assists.
DEFENDERS
Camryn Brown, Sumner, fr. — Made a quick impact as a freshman in a stacked league and earned 4A SPSL North co-defensive player of the year honors.
McKenzie Emmons, Auburn Riverside, jr. — 3A NPSL first-team pick led a Ravens defense that allowed only two goals on the way to an undefeated league title, including two shutouts of 4A NPSL champion Tahoma.
Kayla Fraser, Stadium, sr. — Tigers center back anchored a defense that allowed only one goal in an undefeated season. 3A PCL first-team pick.
Isabella Hernandez, Graham-Kapowsin, sr. — 4A SPSL South defensive player of the year led an Eagles defense that posted four shutouts and allowed multiple goals only twice.
Bridget Nolan, Tahoma, sr. — 4A NPSL first-team pick led a Bears back line that went undefeated against 4A opponents on its way to a league title. Tahoma posted six shutouts, losing only to 3A NPSL winner Auburn Riverside.
Landrey McCann, Olympia, sr. — Seattle Pacific-bound center back started each of her four seasons with the Bears. 3A SSC first-teamer led an Olympia defense that shut out six opponents and was undefeated in league play.
Rachel Pierce, Auburn Mountainview, sr. — Athletic defender could shut down an opponent’s best player, and paced the Lions defense on her way to 3A NPSL athlete of the year honors.
Torie Reardon, Curtis, sr. — 4A SPSL North co-defensive player of the year was calm and composed on defense, a tough one-on-one matchup and read the field well. Two-time TNT All-Area pick will play at UNLV next season.
GOALKEEPER
Ally Larkin, Puyallup, jr. — 4A SPSL South first-team pick recorded 10 shutouts for the undefeated league champion Vikings. Larkin allowed one goal all season, posting an eye-popping goals-against average of 0.09.
