Russell Wilson says he hopes Sunday is not his final game in Seattle for the Seahawks

Russell Wilson is thinking about his Seahawks’ future, too.

One day after fellow franchise cornerstone Bobby Wagner said he is pondering his and the team’s future and that change is inevitable once Seattle’s 5-10 season ends following two more games — including Sunday’s home finale against Detroit — Wilson said his goal remains to win three more Super Bowls.

So Wilson was asked Thursday: Does the 33-year-old quarterback who won it all with Seattle at the end of the 2013 season believe he can win those three more NFL championships with the Seahawks?

“I hope so. Obviously, we can’t do it right now not being in the playoffs right now,” Wilson said, with Seattle is missing the postseason for just the second time in 10 years.

“But I think that most importantly, it takes a lot of effort. It takes a lot of things. It takes a lot of pieces. And I think we have a good amount of those pieces, a lot of them.

“It’s been a tough season, man. You think about Jamal Adams, you lose a guy like that, the other guys we’ve lost along the journey to some tough injuries. You think about all the COVID situation, it’s challenging. It’s been challenging. ...

“For me, I know you guys asked Bobby (Wednesday) about, ‘Could this be last last game?’ and this and that, and all that. I know for me, personally, I hope it’s not my last game (in Seattle). But at the same time, I know it won’t be my last game in the NFL.”

Wilson has two seasons after this one remaining on the $140 million contract extension he signed with the only NFL team he’s known. That deal with Seattle through 2023 made him the league’s highest-paid player in April 2019.

This season is the first one in his career he’s missed games. He injured the middle finger on his throwing hand in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams Oct. 7. He had surgery the next day and missed three games. He returned to practice four weeks following surgery, about half the time his surgeon told him he may miss.

The Seahawks are 2-5 since his return.

“I’m just focused on today,” Wilson said Thursday. “Getting better every day. That’s my focus.

“I love this city, and I love this moment. I love these guys.

“So we’ve got to make sure we get better today. That’s all that matters.”
