The Seattle Seahawks announced in a statement late Wednesday morning Pete Carroll, who has led the franchise the past 14 seasons, will not be Seattle’s head coach in 2024, but move to an advisory role.

“Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community,” the statement from Seahawks chair Jody Allen says.

“His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward.”

Carroll, who joined Seattle ahead of the 2010 season, has since led the Seahawks through some of the most memorable seasons in franchise history.

Here’s a look back at some of the significant Seahawks moments during Carroll’s coaching era:

Jan. 9, 2010 — Carroll, after posting a 97-19 record, nine consecutive bowl game appearances and six Pac-10 titles leading USC’s football program, becomes the eighth head coach in Seattle’s franchise history. The NFL head coaching job was the third in Carroll’s coaching history, following one season with the New York Jets in 1994 and three with the New England Patriots from 1997-99.

Jan. 19, 2010 — Days after Carroll’s hire, the Seahawks announce the arrival of general manager John Schneider, with whom Carroll has worked with each of the past 14 seasons.

April 22, 2010 — The Seahawks draft Oklahoma State offensive tackle Russell Okung with the No. 6 overall pick on the first day of the 2010 NFL Draft, in the first of 14 draft classes selected by Seattle with Schneider and Carroll. Five of the nine players Seattle selected in the draft — Okung, safety Earl Thomas, wide receiver Golden Tate, cornerback Walter Thurmond and safety Kam Chancellor — were on Seattle’s eventual Super Bowl winning roster.

Sept. 12, 2010 — Carroll earns his first regular season win as the Seahawks’ coach with a 31-6 victory over NFC West rival San Francisco in Seattle.

Jan. 2, 2011 — The Seahawks complete Carroll’s first regular season with a 16-6 victory over the Rams at home in Seattle, securing the franchise’s first NFC West championship since the 2007 season.

Jan. 8, 2011 — Seattle plays in a postseason game for the first time since the 2007 season, winning 41-36 over New Orleans in the Wild Card round in Seattle. Running back Marshawn Lynch’s 67-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gives the Seahawks a double-digit lead late. The postseason win was the first of 10 during Carroll’s coaching era.

April 28-30, 2011 — Seattle makes nine selections in the 2011 NFL Draft, adding five more players who eventually won a Super Bowl title with the franchise, including first-round pick James Carpenter, linebacker K.J. Wright, cornerback Richard Sherman, cornerback Byron Maxwell and linebacker Malcolm Smith.

April 26-28, 2012 — Seahawks continue to add to their eventual championship roster in the 2012 NFL Draft, making 10 picks, including six — first-round selection Bruce Irvin, linebacker Bobby Wagner, quarterback Russell Wilson, running back Robert Turbin, cornerback Jeremy Lane and offensive guard J.R. Sweezy — that were on the Super Bowl winning roster.

Dec. 30, 2012 — Seattle completes an 11-5 regular season with a 20-13 victory over the visiting Rams, posting the franchise’s first winning regular season since 2007.

Jan. 6, 2013 — Seattle wins, 24-14, in the Wild Card round on the road at Washington, giving the Seahawks their second playoff win of Carroll’s era and first of Wilson’s in his rookie season.

Dec. 29, 2013 — Seahawks close out the regular season with a 27-9 win over the Rams in Seattle, wrapping up their second NFC West title during Carroll’s era, and matching the franchise record for regular season wins at 13.

Jan. 11, 2014 — Seattle posts a 23-15 victory over visiting New Orleans in the divisional round, advancing to the NFC Championship game for the first time since 2005.

Jan. 19, 2014 — The Seahawks rally in Seattle with a 10-point fourth quarter, and Sherman tips what could have been the go-ahead touchdown pass away in the end zone with 22 seconds left, leading to Malcolm Smith’s game-sealing interception. Seattle completes the 23-17 comeback win over the visiting 49ers in the NFC Championship game to advance to the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history.

Feb. 2, 2014 — Seattle wins Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, completing the best season in franchise history with a 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos. The Seahawks score five touchdowns in the win — one rushing, two receiving, an interception return and kickoff return — and add two field goals in a safety. The NFL title win is the first for both the Seahawks and Carroll.

Dec. 28, 2014 — A 20-6 win over the Rams in Seattle wraps up a second consecutive NFC West championship for the Seahawks, and third with Carroll leading the franchise.

Jan. 10, 2015 — The Seahawks return to NFC Championship game for a second consecutive season with a 31-17 victory over the Panthers in the divisional round in Seattle.

Jan. 18, 2015Wilson’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse in overtime against the visiting Packers sends the Seahawks back to the Super Bowl following a 28-22 thriller in the NFC Championship game.

Feb. 1, 2015 — Seattle makes back-to-back Super Bowl trips for the first time in franchise history, but loses to New England, 28-24, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona following the pivotal Patriots interception at the 1-yard line with 26 seconds to play.

Jan. 10, 2016 — Seahawks win a playoff game for the fifth time in six seasons in Carroll’s coaching era, topping the Vikings, 10-9, in the Wild Card round on the road in Minneapolis to advance to the divisional round for the fourth consecutive year.

Jan. 1, 2017 — A 25-23 victory over the 49ers in Santa Clara lifts the Seahawks to their fifth consecutive 10-win regular season and fourth NFC West title with Carroll.

Jan. 7, 2017 — Seahawks win a postseason game for the fifth consecutive year with a 26-6 win over the visiting Lions in the Wild Card round.

Oct. 14, 2018 — Carroll earns his 91st win with the Seahawks (82 regular season, nine postseason), becoming the franchise’s all-time winningest coach. Seattle beat the Raiders, 27-3, at Wembley Stadium in London.

Dec. 30, 2018 — The Seahawks finish the regular season at 10-6 with a 27-24 victory over the visiting Cardinals, and advance to the playoffs for the seventh time in Carroll’s nine seasons.

Sept. 15, 2019 — Seattle’s 28-26 win on the road in Pittsburgh lifts Carroll to his 100th career with the Seahawks on his birthday.

Jan. 5, 2020 — Carroll leads the Seahawks to the postseason for the eighth time in 10 seasons, and Seattle’s 17-9 victory on the road in Philadelphia in the Wild Card round gives Carroll his 10th playoff win with the franchise.

Jan. 3, 2021 — Seattle closes out the 2020 regular season with a 26-23 win over the 49ers on the road, winning a fifth NFC West title with Carroll. The Seahawks’ 12-4 regular season record was the eighth time Seattle won at least 10 regular season games in Carroll’s era.

Jan. 8, 2023 — Seahawks post a 19-16 overtime victory over the Rams at home and later advance to the postseason for the 10th time in Carroll’s 13 seasons.

Jan. 7, 2024 — The Seahawks end the 2023 season with a winning record of 9-8 — the 11th winning season in Carroll’s 14 leading the franchise — after posting a 21-20 victory over the Cardinals in Arizona, minutes after a Green Bay win over Chicago officially eliminated Seattle from postseason contention. The Seahawks’ win pushed Carroll’s overall heading coaching record with Seattle to 137-89-1 in regular season contests. Carroll coached Seattle to a 10-9 record in postseason games, including the franchise’s first and only Super Bowl victory.
