A fire tore through a Tacoma duplex. Nine people are left without a home

Nine people were displaced when a fire ripped through a duplex in Tacoma early Wednesday, according to the Fire Department.

Everyone was able to escape before firefighters arrived about 4:30 a.m.

Crews found heavy flames and smoke coming from the home in the 1600 block of South 84th Street. The fire started near the back of the building and spread over the roof to the front, fire spokesman Joe Meineke said.

No one was injured.

The American Red Cross is helping to find temporary housing for the nine people who lived there.

Investigators have not determined what started the blaze.
