Kent police fatally shot man who dragged officer behind car
Kent police shot and killed a 20-year-old man early Wednesday after he dragged an officer behind a stolen vehicle in an attempt to escape.
The man has not been identified.
A woman called police just after midnight to report that the man was violating a protection order and she needed help near the Benson Plaza strip mall in the 23600 block of 104th Avenue Southeast.
The man tried to flee when officers arrived, running down an alley and jumping into a stolen car. He allegedly dragged one of the officers who tried to stop the man to speak with him.
Two officers opened fire on the man, killing him. It was not immediately known how many shots were fired.
The officer and a K-9 who were dragged were not seriously injured.
The man twice violated the protection order in one day and was driving a stolen vehicle, police said.
He also had a felony warrant and several misdemeanor warrants, KOMO reported.
Both officers who fired have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a police shooting.
