A man’s bizarre behavior is being blamed on the amount of whipped cream bottles he was huffing daily, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The 51-year-old’s habit was to allegedly huff 50 to 75 cans each day, spending more than $1,000 every month.
Inhaling nitrous oxide from the bottles, commonly known as whippits, enables people to experience an out-of-body type of high.
Whippits are the most popular recreational inhalant, and more than 12 million people in the United States have tried it at least once, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Actress Demi Moore made headlines in 2012 when she was hospitalized after reportedly using whippits.
This man was arrested Sunday after Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were called to his Ashford home because his roommate reported he was “acting aggressively” and wouldn’t leave the house.
Deputies arrived to find the two men arguing. The roommate quickly left, but the suspect refused to cooperate with deputies when asked to take his hands out of his pockets.
He was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Two knives were found in his pocket.
His girlfriend later told deputies he’d shoved her that day, and told them about his whippit addiction.
