Vigil planned for woman who died in University Place wreck

Friends and family of a Tacoma woman killed in a wreck Saturday plan to hold a vigil Monday night (June 20).

Loved ones of 28-year-old Kasandra Moffett said it will be at 8 p.m. in Franklin Park, 1201 S. Puget Sound Ave., Tacoma.

University Place Police Chief Mike Blair said six other people were seriously injured in the two-vehicle crash about 1 a.m. at 27th Street West and Bridgeport Way, in University Place.

Five people in the car with Moffett and a passenger in a truck involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals, Blair said. All were in stable condition and expected to survive, he said.

Blair said driver of the truck showed signs of impairment after the crash.

Pierce County prosecutors on Monday did not charge the truck driver, a University Place man arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and assault.

He will be released pending further information, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The News Tribune does not generally name suspects until they have been charged with a crime.

Moffett’s friends have started a GoFundMe site to raise money to help with burial costs at gofundme.com/2a6vstjg.

Loved ones left messages for Moffett on the site, including: “Your energy was always so positive,” and “Her smile could light up a stadium.”
