Teen charged in Tacoma shooting in revenge for assault on grandmother is apprehended

A 17-year-old accused of opening fire on a Tacoma man he believed had wronged the teen’s grandmother was arrested Tuesday.

Justice Henderson was charged with attempted first-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm after the May 4 shooting.

A warrant was issued, but Henderson couldn’t be found.

He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday.

Charging papers gave this account:

The 63-year-old victim was shot in the chest, forearm, buttocks, shin and hand after he recognized Henderson and opened his front door to greet the teen.

Henderson and Marchae Garrison, 17, burst through the door and continued to shoot at the man as he retreated through the kitchen.

Garrison is accused of shooting the victim.

His girlfriend, Melissa Thierry, 18, is believed to have been the getaway driver. Both have pleaded not guilty to the same charges.

“Henderson had said he needed to squash some type of beef with the victim,” according to the charging papers.

He told his friends the victim assaulted his grandmother in the past “and he was going to do something about it.”

Thierry drove the teens to the man’s house in the 1700 block of South 35th Street and drew suspicion from neighbors who saw them skulking around the neighborhood.

Several neighbors called 911 after gunshots rang out.

The victim’s girlfriend, who was in the house but unharmed, also called 911.

Police said they found a gun and ammunition while searching a home where Henderson, Garrison and Thierry lived.
