LNG plant: Fuel shaping up to be cleanest alternative

Liquefied natural gas is a much cleaner fuel than the diesel or bunker fuel currently used by maritime vessels using the Port of Tacoma.

The Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement being prepared for the LNG project addresses the broadest range of greenhouse and other potential air-quality impacts from the proposed plant.

The scope includes not only emissions locally, but will address impacts from the extraction and transportation of gas to Tacoma.

This SEIS is likely to indicate that benefits from using LNG as a marine fuel will yield significantly fewer air emissions than from current diesel or bunker fuel use.

If remaining LNG production after sale to TOTE shipping also replaces marine diesel and bunker fuels, there will be additional benefits.

Of current choices for marine fuels, LNG is the cleanest.
