Prep roundup: Gig Harbor soccer extends win streak with shutout of Peninsula

Girls Soccer

Top performer: Haily Still, Thomas Jefferson

Scored 3 goals — in 3-3 tie against Auburn Riverside

Gig Harbor 1, Peninsula 0: The Tides flexed their defensive muscles and shut out the Seahawks behind Claire Bosselmann and Auna Havens in the net.

And Gig Harbor’s Alyssa Gray provided all the offensive damage it would need, scoring in the 38th minute off an assist from Jaylynn Barton.

“Our defense worked hard and played together as a unit, they limited Peninsula's chances,” said Gig Harbor coach Stephanie Cox, the former U.S. Women’s Soccer standout and Seattle Reign player. “The second half neither team had a full rhythm, but we kept it tight enough for the win."

“We created a lot of chances, but weren't able to get them in the back of the nest. Alyssa's speed and athleticism gave her that chance to score and she did.”

The Tides (4-1-0) have now won four in a row since a season-opening loss to Union. It was the first loss for Peninsula (2-1-0).

Cascade Christian 3, Charles Wright 0: 1A Niqually play has begun and Nicole Souply is still torching opposing defenses.

Souply recorded a hat trick, scoring all three of the Cougars goals in the shutout victory to open league play and pushing her season total to 15 goals through six matches. She also has eight assists.

Hannah Beardemphl assisted on the first two goals, coming in the 13th and 25 minutes.

Thomas Jefferson 3, Auburn Riverside 3: Hailey Still’s third goal of the match was the biggest.

That one tied the match in the 60th minute as the Raiders and Ravens would play to a 3-3 draw. Still’s second goal tied it in the 50th minute, but Auburn Riverside (3-1-1) regained the lead when Ella Miller scored her second goal of the match eight minutes later.

But Still’s final goal ensured Jefferson (2-0-1) would remain unbeaten.

41 assists, five kills — in 3-1 win over Tumwater

Black Hills 3, Elma 1: The Wolves were seeing fits of frustration as the Eagles kept putting back everything Black Hills was throwing at them in their match.

However, thanks to Maisy Williams’ 15 kills and three blocks, the Wolves came away with the victory.

“Elma’s defense challenged every aspect of our game,” Black Hills coach Jessica Prigge said. “They are probably the best defensive team we’ve played.”

Williams also made only two errors to go with her big production.

“She was out go-to all night,” Prigge said. “She dominated.”

Williams wasn’t the only Black Hills player that really had a good night. Ainsley Campbell finished with 42 assists and Emma Goodman had 13 digs and four aces. Hannah Rogen also had 13 kills.
