Proctor neighborhood, you're getting a wine bar this summer. Here are the details
Proctor, you’re getting a wine bar with a specialty in champagne and sparkling wines.
The Blue Octopus intends to open within the next month. It will offer a menu of wine-by-the-glass or bottle with an emphasis on domestic and European sparkling wines, plus a lengthy list of champagne cocktails and mimosas. It also will serve other styles of wine, plus beer.
This is a move for the business. The Blue Octopus Art Gallery and Champagne Bar closed June 3 at Point Ruston with the intention of relocating. It found its new home quickly in the Proctor neighborhood in the space vacated by Alegre Bakery and Gelato on Sunday. It was a little bit of serendipity that led to Blue Octopus moving to the Alegre space.
"A mutual customer of ours connected us," said Blue Octopus owner Kerry Cole.
Expect the same lengthy list of sparkling wines as the Point Ruston venue, which Cole opened in February 2017 in a two-story space that held a studio upstairs for private paint-and-sip parties and a champagne bar downstairs. Cole is no stranger to moving her business. She previously operated in Ruston proper and two downtown Tacoma locations over the last decade.
The Proctor location of Blue Octopus will also host live music. Cole sold the paint-party portion of her business to an employee who ran those parties, but Cole said, “as an artist, I’m always going to support local artists.” She’ll display local artwork in the new location and also intends to host art shows.
She’s also looking at using the kitchen to make food at her venue, a first for her.
“I’m looking at a bunch of different options,” she said.
She’s talking with a chef friend about the possibility of an oyster bar and she’s also exploring different ways to make use of the kitchen that already exists at the Alegre space. However, those details are still being determined.
