Two new food outlets are closer to opening next to the Tacoma Mall at the site of the former Pier 1, which recently gained new ownership.

The standalone property, across the parking lot from the mall, is being remodeled into multiple storefronts, changing from its single retail version when it was Pier 1. Pier 1 closed its Tacoma location in 2020.

An XFinity Store opened there in December. Two other retail spaces undergoing finishing details include a new Chipotlane drive-thru and Jersey Mike’s sandwich shop.

Sally Evans, media representative for Chipotle, told The News Tribune on Thursday, “We are still planning to open ... this spring and can share an opening date at the end of the month.”

Kyle Potvin, media representative for Jersey Mike’s, told The News Tribune the opening date now looks to be mid-March.

The chain also is planning new sites in Federal Way, Seattle, Pasco and two in Spokane, according to its website, where the Tacoma location also is listed.

Both stores are making their way through permitting, according to documents on file.

Plans on file with the city of Tacoma show the three sites at the former Pier 1 store location next to the Tacoma Mall. Tenant C is the new Chipotlane.

The building sold earlier this month for $6.9 million to TMP Investments LLC, led by Jeffrey Tallman of Coupeville, Oregon, from MP Pier 1 LLC, which purchased the property in 2018 for nearly $3.5 million.
