Here’s an update on BECU’s plans to open two new Pierce County branches
There’s an opening date for a long-touted Gig Harbor BECU branch, while permits have been submitted to the City of Tacoma for a new branch there.
BECU media representative Bethany Hawley told The News Tribune in response to questions this week that its new Gig Harbor branch will open July 18. The Neighborhood Financial Center will be at 4784 Borgen Blvd., Suite A, in The Shops at Harbor Hill shopping center.
The new Gig Harbor branch location for the Tukwila-based credit union has been in the works since it was announced last July.
Meanwhile the City of Tacoma received a permit application on May 23 to overhaul the former Bank of America site at South 23rd Street and South Union Avenue for its new Pierce County Financial Center.
News of that site was first reported in November.
The work at 3408 23rd St. in Tacoma will include the addition of a new elevator, with work tentatively set to begin in September, though dates can change depending on permitting time and site work scheduling.
Bank of America sold the property in October 2023 for $5.5 million to an LLC affiliated with the owners of the nearby Tacoma Central Shopping Center.
The overhaul is estimated to cost $1 million, according to the permit filing.
The new Tacoma BECU site is set to open the first quarter of next year, according to Hawley.
