Two stretches of road along state Route 7 are about to get loud for the next couple of months.

The Washington State Department of Transportation announced plans to replace old asphalt in two spots along SR 7 in Tacoma and Spanaway. Construction will begin Monday night and is estimated to finish in August.

Despite WSDOT officials calling the work “unavoidably loud,” construction will occur solely at night because of lower traffic volumes — 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 7:30 p.m. on Fridays to 9 a.m. Saturdays.

The first section of roadwork involves the right lane from the intersection of state Route 507 and SR 7 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord northbound to 169th Street in Spanaway.

The second construction area will occur on the right lanes both north and southbound of SR 7, starting just north of SR 512 and running to South 38th Street in Tacoma.

The second area of road works will be on SR 7 and extend from SR 512 up north to South 38th Street in Tacoma.
