A woman vacationing in Puyallup is missing near Mount Rainier after not returning from a hiking trip Sunday afternoon.
Lacy Annette Murphy, 24, drove alone toward the mountain to go on a hike near Mowich Lake about 2:30 p.m. Sunday and has not been seen nor heard from since, Puyallup police said in a news release. She had told her mother she was going to be back by 7:30 p.m., police spokesman Scott Engle said.
Investigators found her vehicle near the Mowich area, inside Mount Rainier National Park.
Murphy was wearing a blue flannel shirt, red YMCA jacket, blue jeans and blue hiking boots. She is 5-foot-3 with an average build, brown hair and hazel eyes.
Puyallup police, the National Park Service, and Pierce County Search and Rescue were conducting a joint investigation.
Murphy was on a cross-country trip with her mother and they were staying at a bed and breakfast in Puyallup, Engle said. Murphy was due to fly to Alaska on Monday, while her mother was to fly home.
Anyone with information about Murphy’s disappearance is asked to call the National Park Service dispatch at 360-569-6606.
