After four people were fatally shot in Tacoma Thursday, the homicide count in the city this year reached 27.
That’s still below last year’s tally of 32, which was the highest number since 1994 when there were 33.
Nineteen of the 27 homicides this year, or 70 percent, were shootings.
Interim Police Chief Mike Ake and the City Council have been working on a plan to tamp down on violent crime, which has skyrocketed in Tacoma and nationwide.
Police haven’t released many details about the quadruple homicide, which occurred at about 4:25 p.m. in the 4200 block of Everett Avenue in the Salishan neighborhood.
Two females and one male were pronounced dead at the scene. Another male taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries was pronounced dead less than three hours later, police said.
No one is in custody.
