Tacoma Public Schools and the Tacoma Housing Authority are offering students and families counseling services after four people were killed in a Thursday afternoon shooting.
Two men and two women were shot in Salishan around 4:24 p.m. Witnesses told The News Tribune families were outside when the shooting occurred in the 4000 block of Everett. Police have not yet identified the victims. The suspect or suspects remains at large.
Director of communications for Tacoma Public Schools Dan Voelpel said there are resources for students in need.
“We had crisis counselors on site this morning at Lister and Roosevelt elementary schools, First Creek Middle School and Lincoln High School,” Voelpel said in an email.
Some, like Jared and Brian, who requested only their first names be used out of fear of retaliation, kept their children home Friday. Jared said he called into work sick.
“I just don’t feel comfortable with letting them out of my sight,” he told The News Tribune.
The Tacoma Housing Authority is offering grief counseling at the Eastside Community Center, 1721 E. 56th St., on Friday from 2-4 p.m.
“We’ve been reaching out to residents via text and letters left on doors to let them know about these resources,” THA communications manager Nick Tolley said in an email.
