Second victim in linked pair of Pierce County homicides IDed by Medical Examiner

The second victim in the pair of Pierce County killings that occurred earlier this week has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.

Keitwaun White, 35, died of multiple gunshot wounds and multiple sharp-force injuries, according to the ME’s public portal. The manner of death was listed as homicide.

White, along with 46-year-old James Trujillo, died early Wednesday morning.

At 2:40 a.m., Pierce County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 12500 block of Woodland Avenue East in Summit and found White dead.

About half an hour later, police responded to a fatal shooting in the 6900 block of East D Street in Tacoma.

Later that day, the PCSO announced the homicides were connected and listed 24-year-old Hayes McCloud as the suspect. McCloud was on the run and considered armed and dangerous by law enforcement.

Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank announced on X that evening that McCloud was shot and killed by law enforcement in Seaside, Oregon.

PCSO previously said that investigators believe both murders were targeted, but McCloud’s motive is unknown at this time.

A GoFundMe started by White’s family to raise money for his funeral expenses had raised nearly $5,000 as of Saturday.

“If you knew Keitwaun, you knew someone with an incredibly kind heart,” the GoFundMe said. “He loved deeply, showed up for the people in his life, and had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.”
